One of the great tragedies of the social media era is the amplification of opinion at the expense of deliberation and decorum. Everyone has something to say, but it's so rare to find someone who has carefully considered the real meaning his words convey. Never before have so many used so many words to say so little of value.

The important question is: are our opinions becoming less thoughtful or are we simply as we have always been, only louder? If the former, then social media is letting us down and we must refine the tools that we use for expressing ourselves. If the latter, then we are letting it down, and we must aspire to better ourselves.
